Whenever you move to a new neighborhood, or notice a new neighbor on your street, it is a great idea to get to know them! Not only is it courteous, but neighbors can become close friends and be there for you in a time of need. Here are some tips to help you break the ice!
- Door to Door
Although it might seem like an old pastime, but the most traditional way to meet your neighbor is to greet them at their house. If you are nervous about doing this, start by a friendly wave as they are mowing the lawn or checking the mail, and then go up an introduce yourself. You’ll be glad you did!
- Mail a Note
Sending a bit of snail mail is a nice gesture to welcome your neighbors. Simply introduce yourself and let them know they are welcome to come by or borrow a cup of sugar.
- Host a Block Party/Go to a Block Party
Whether you want to host or participate in a block party, it is a great way to get to know the neighbors on the street. People love seasonal parties that are family friendly!
- NextDoor
Download the App or connect with the website called Nextdoor! Neighbors in the same neighborhood are given a platform to interact, share upcoming events, discuss need of other neighbors, notify of urgent weather or crime activity, and much more. It is a great way to not only learn who you neighbors are but to- stay connected.
