Last week, we blogged about the importance of determining a budget for your home renovation project. But, we would like to share some simple tips to help you start a home design project. What styles are right for you? How do you know what to change or to keep?
- Evaluate Your Home As Is
Your first step is to take a look around your home before gathering ideas. Do you like the fabrics, colors, and furniture pieces that are there now? Take a mental note to keep the things that speak to you and ditch the ones that don’t.
- Make A Wish List
Compile a list of everything you would want to change if money were not an issue, a wish list! From this list, you will be able to prioritize the things you want remodel in accordance with what you can afford.
- Collect Photos
Whether you create Ideabooks on Houzz or magazine cutouts, start gathering photos that reflect the type of design changes you are envisioning. Allow this process to continue for a month or several months to make sure that you are embracing true design passions, not just design impulses.
- Pick A Room
We may not all have budgets that allow us to complete every design idea on the wish list all at once. Instead, determine what room needs to be completed first, and start there. Once that room is fully completed, then you can start the next one!
