Texas Typhoon Releases Opening Date

It’s the moment we have all been waiting for! Typhoon Texas has released an opening date!

Typhoon Texas, a $45 million water park nestled on a 25-acre site next to Katy Mills Mall, is one of the most highly anticipated events of 2016 in Katy. The park is on schedule to open for Memorial Day weekend.

As shown on the Typhoon Texas website, the 25-acre site will have 16 attractions, including Typhoon Bay, The Lazy-T and The Birthday Barn. Katy’s “Typhoon Texas” will feature a 25,000-square-foot wave pool, a 1,345-foot lazy river and more than 13 rides. Typhoon Texas’ children’s play structure will be 48 feet tall and contain 250 feet of elevated walkways and rope bridges.

The founders of Typhoon Texas promise the park will be the “greenest” ever, with filters that will save more than 20,000 gallons of water per week and chlorinated water that will not be dumped into public utility systems.

The official grand opening date is set for May 28, 555 Katy Fort Bend Road, said Terry Hlavinka, a partner on the project with Keith Dalton and Ray Delaughter.

“About 75 percent of the rides are erected, so you can easily see them from the (Interstate 10) freeway,” Hlavinka said on February 3rd. “There’s been a lot of excitement in the last two to three weeks.” You can even view a “flyover” of the park on the Texas Typhoon website.
