Pantone’s Color of the Year 2016

Pantone recently released the latest color of the year! And, for the first time in Pantone history, two shades were picked in order to provide the perfect blend of warmth and calmness. Pantone’s color pick is Rose Quartz and Serenity.

Rose Quartz has a gentle tone that conveys compassion and composure. Serenity is light and weightless, bringing feelings of relief and relaxation. By joining together two shades, there is unique balance of the warm rose tone and the tranquil blue tone, “reflecting connections and wellness, as well as a soothing sense of order and peace,” according to Pantone.

In addition, the color selection this year was meant to be symbolic. By creating a unilateral approach to color and a color blur, Pantone’s website reveals that they are seeking to create a metaphor that coincides with our culture’s movement towards gender and social equality. They wanted to honor the consumer’s choice to use color as a form of expression of attitude and mood.
