Cross Creek Ranch Receives Design Recognition

The Houston District Council of the Urban Land Institute presented the People’s Choice Award during the council’s 2016 Development of Distinction Awards. Cross Creek Ranch in Fulshear was one of eight finalists in the annual awards program, which recognizes “developments and public open spaces that exemplify best practices in design, construction, economic viability, health places, marketing and management.”

Cross Creek Ranch received a development award recognizing the 3,200-acre master-planned community’s environmentally-friendly design.  Among the highlights of Johnson Development community is Flewellen Creek, which runs approximately 150 acres through the development. The company restored much of the creek, creating an ecosystem for wildlife and a natural setting for residents. A 50-acre pond in Cross Creek Ranch also was developed as a bird and wildlife habitat, as well as a groundwater filtering system.

“Cross Creek Ranch creates an enduring community by prioritizing core values associated with a sustainable environment, engaged people, vibrant culture, endless learning and interconnectedness,” the Urban Land Institute stated in a news release. “Together, the result is a distinct development that has experienced sustained and recognizable economic, social and environmental success within the Houston region and beyond.”
