Buc-ee’s, the mega-convenience store chain, is known for its array of unique snacks, barbeque station, Texas-style gifts, clean spacious bathrooms, and of course the infamous Beaver “mascot” inspired by the co-founder. The franchise has announced plans this month to build a travel center along Interstate 10 in Katy.
On Monday, March 14th, the Katy City Council unanimously approved the Katy Development Authority’s agreement with the Buc-ee’s chain. The newest location will be located at northeast corner of I-10 and Cane Island Parkway, which is west of FM 1463.
Buc-ee’s co-founder, Beaver Aplin, said the Katy location will be between 50,000 and 60,000 square feet and have 100 gas pumps, and will include a tunnel car wash as well. Construction will begin this summer with the anticipated opening date in the summer of 2017.
Before the project begins, the city of Katy will be working diligently with the Texas Department of Transportation to build a “much needed” frontage road connecting FM 1463 and Cane Island Parkway.
The Katy travel center will be the 37th location for Buc-ee’s, the Lake Jackson-based convenience store chain that first opened in 1982. The company recently announced plans for a store in Baton Rouge, La., which would be the first Buc-ee’s location outside Texas.
