2016 Design Predictions by Zillow

By surveying leading interior design experts and analyzing trending photos on Zillow Digs, Zillow has compiled a list of design predictions we can expect to see next year. Say goodbye to mason jars and burlap details, 2016 has a new flair!

Art-Deco Patterns & Shapes

This style is most known for its geometric and symmetrical patterns, such as honeycombs and hexagons. Art deco cleverly adds elegance with depths of dimension to any space, and we can expect to see it in anything from wallpaper to artwork. Art deco is likely to incorporate metallic art deco patters as well, like gold or brass.

Natural Fibers

Natural fibers, such as wool, will be the go to texture for 2016, especially for area rugs. Neutral fibers present the perfect palate piece for any space. The simplistic innateness of natural fibers bring an organic warmth to the home.

Encaustic Tiles

Rather than different types of glazes, encaustic tiles are made from different colors of clay that have a detailed, intricate pattern. These tiles create a beautiful, natural focal point. The incorporation of encaustic tiles can be expected to be seen in kitchen backsplashes, bathroom tiles, and even fireplace mantles.

Artisan Accents

Complementing encaustic tiles and art-deco patterns, the use of artisan accent is predicted to become a 2016 staple in home interiors. Whether it is a travel souvenir or flea market find, the demand for one of a kind handmade items is on the rise. These statement pieces not only create an eye-catching accent, but they tell a story, and possibly support an international artisan. Expect to see growing partnerships between stores and global artisans!
